How to Play Video Poker for Real Money

There are dozens of different video poker machines out there, but all of these games are played in a similar format. The game begins with the player inserting coins – typically, the player can choose to play with anywhere from 1 to 5 coins at a time. The player is then dealt a five card hand from a standard deck of 52 playing cards (in some cases, jokers are also included in the deck).

The player can then choose to keep as many or as few of the cards as they like. Cards that are discarded will be replaced at random by the machine from the remaining cards in the deck. Once the replacement cards are dealt, the player’s hand is final, and the player will be paid based on the strength of their hand. The minimum hand required to win can vary; for instance, while Jacks or Better requires only a pair of jacks to win, Deuces Wild machines only pay out if you make three of a kind or more.

Real money video poker often has additional options and features as well. For instance, many video poker machines will allow you to play multiple hands at once – sometimes as many as 100 hands at a time. In addition, many games include an option that allows you to play a “double or nothing” game after each hand, giving you a 50/50 shot at winning twice as much money at the risk of losing your winnings.

Real Money Video Poker Strategy

If you want to play video poker for real money, it is critical that you learn the proper strategy for the machine you’re playing on. These strategies vary from machine to machine, and are often complex and counter-intuitive. However, the rewards for learning them are great; many video poker machines have returns of over 99% with optimal play, and some real money video poker machines even return over 100% to perfect players!

Beyond the individual game strategies, there are a few general tips that will help you do better when playing video poker for real money. First, always play the maximum number of coins allowed in a machine; most of the time, you will only get full value for a royal flush or other jackpot hand if you have played with the maximum number of coins.

Secondly, take a careful look at the pay table being offered on the video poker machines you’re playing on, as this can make a huge difference in the returns being offered by your machine. For instance, the full pay Jacks or Better pay table offers a return of 99.54%; however, other common pay tables return as little as 96%.
